In poche parole: Anche se i velisti si comportano relativamente bene paragonati sopratutto ai motoscafisti e ai jetskiers, la morale rapida e':
Mettersi il salvagente e stare attenti a quello che succede.

Non riesco a trovare dati coerenti per calcolare la "incidentalità" delle barche nel complesso, di quelle a motore e di quelle a vela.
Mi parrebbe che siano rispettivamente del 4,7% e del 2,6%.
Qualcuno può confermare o correggere?

@umeghu, non vedo a vista dove sono 4,7 o 2,6, ma le info divise per tipo di barca " by vessel type" le vedo in:
pagina 7, le barche a vela non appaiono neanche nei top 5 della graduatoria di incidenti per tipo di barca.
Pagina 24, per tipo di barca e tipo di incidente, con i totali.
Pagg. 41, 42, 47, 48, 49, 50, 65, 67.

Ciao Crafter, intendevo il Numero di incidenti per tipo di barca / il numero di barche di quel tipo esistenti-naviganti-registrate.
E questa "incidentalità" è, spesso, sottovalutata da noi velisti....

Ciao @Umeghu, ho guardato un po', bisogna andare and incrociare le statistiche con i dati forniti dall' associazione di categoria, che ovviamente non ha interesse a mostrare gli incidenti...
Info gratis se fai parte della categoria, a pagamento per gli altri, e si paga anche tanto: Le registrazioni, a parte quelle fate facoltativamente dalla Coast Guard che si chiamano "Documentation" vengono fatte a livello statale, non federale, ed in certi stati si registrano anche le canoe, in certi neanche i tender motorizzati... vai a capire.
Qui' quello che sono riuscito a raccogliere, a spanne, di circa 15-16 milioni di barche registrate 1,6 milioni sono a vela.

I have a question on the definition of the data:
On page 8 the report states:
Overview of Statistics This report contains statistics on registered recreational vessels and boating accidents during calendar year 2018.
In many states, paddleboats such as canoes and kayaks are NOT registered. Here is a list of states that require registration of a paddleboat:

If the 2018 recreational boating statistics records only accidents on registered recreational vessel, I conclude that it does not account for accidents of canoes and kayaks in states that these vessels are not registered.
Can you please clarify?

The publication presents information on registration statistics and boating accidents. The latter includes accidents that occur on registered and unregistered vessels.
As you astutely noted, many states have different registration requirements, which affects any rate calculation that uses registration data as a denominator. For this reason, we have a caveat listed on publication pages 13, 54, and 62 to alert readers.
