Non mi sembra che la questione sia così 'lapalissiana'.
Se la regata è una cosiddetta manifestazione del diporto, il regolamento di regata ISAF vale quanto il 2 di picche quando la briscola è . ci si regola come da . come si vuole, dato che nessuno può . forse si può intentare una causa.
Nelle regate open, mi regolerei come da RRS 50 isaf.
Nelle regate organizzate sotto l'egida fiv, e dunque in classe riconosciuta Orc o Irc, posto che la normativa è molto sintetica in merito:
Il termine “a vele bianche” significa imbarcazione che naviga esclusivamente con randa e fiocco.
...ci si dovrebbe rifare al regolamento di classe, che per l'ORC dice:
113.4 c) If there is no spinnaker aboard; boat will be rated with an asymmetric spinnaker tacked on centerline with the same area as the largest jib/genoa.
e
208.2 Spinnakers shall be sheeted:
a) from only one point
b) to any part of the rail or deck
c) to the main boom within the measurement limit according to the IMS F5.4 and shall not be sheeted to any other spar or outrigger.

Dunque io interpreto che se il genoa più grande è considerato spi asimmetrico, va murato sulla linea di mezzeria e la scotta non può passare per tangoni o buttafuori.
L'IRC addirittura cancella e deroga la RRS 50.3 c, quindi se la regata è IRC vale la seguente regola (headsail = fiocco o genoa), salvo che il bando non sia più restrittivo:
21.3.4 RRS 50.3© is deleted and replaced by:
A headsail may be sheeted or attached at its clew or tack to a spinnaker pole or whisker pole, provided:
(a) that a spinnaker is not set,
(b) that the HSA and LLmax dimensions do not exceed the rated values,
© that for a boat rated with no spinnakers that a whisker pole is declared,
(d) that the pole length measured as spinnaker tack length (STL) does not exceed the rated STL.
(e) that for a boat rated under Rule 21.3.6(a) with no spinnaker pole, the whisker pole (measured as STL) shall not exceed the rated STL.
Dunque il genoa potrebbe avere anche la mura o la scotta sul tangone o sul buttafuori, se il buttafuori è stato dichiarato per la barca attrezzata senza spi e se la misura rientra in quella di STL.
Se non è stato dichiarato il buttafuori, dunque non si può usare.
Il tutto non mi sembra così intuitivo come mi vorreste far .
