BMEA CODE OF PRACTICE for Electrical and Electronic Installations in Small Craft
Incorporating BMF guidelines for The Recreational Craft Directive
Fourth Edition (supersedes Third Edition)
Citazione:9.1.8
Do not thoughtlessly extend bonding beyond normal stern gear components when installing cathodic protection on wood or GRP hulled boats. The addition of such items as trim tabs, ballast keels, sea cocks, etc will increase the demand on an anode, thus reducing its service life, perhaps to an unpredictable and unacceptable period. With the exception of sea cocks, other items may best be protected by independent systems. Consult suppliers.

Metallic skin fittings, including stop valves are used to supply engine cooling water, to discharge water from galley sinks, toilets etc and therefore are normally connected using electrically non-conductive pipework. Skin fittings used to house log or depth sounder transducers would normally be electrically isolated from the device itself.
When fitted to electrically non-conductive hulls, such fittings may be left electrically floating rather than bonded.
