Sono impazzito anche io finché in un forum americano (cruising forum) ho trovato la procedura per il ripristino, te la incollo come l'ho trovata per non introdurre errori, ti assicuro che funziona.

I found the solution and seeing many other posting of lost soules who had the same problem but never found the solution, I give it here:
the autohelm autopilot did on some reason reset itself (can happen anytime so write it down if you own any autohelm pilots!!!)
it shows 800 when starting (means the st800 firmware is running)
no rudder reference and no calibration or setup is possible (you have to calibrate and setup the unit in the end!!!)
when you try to enter the setup it never shows CAL but only ends up showing your the software revision like:
... P07, P08, P09, P10, P11, P12 ...
press -10 and +1 together until it shows "800"
press -10 and +1 again until the "800" is flashing
use the +1 or -1 key to select the right firmware for your model ("4000" was mine)
press -10 and +1 again for ca 10sec to save the configuration
switch it off and on again and make sure it doesn't show "800" but your model number - "4000" in my case
recalibrate and reconfire the device!!
just saved your a lots of $$$ or in some situation even more
